Ein Lebenszeichen

Hallo allerseits,

An Englishman in Freiburg, Germany

In this entry I want to let the world know how a foreigner, an Englishman, deals with the difficulties awaiting him in Germany :P . Although it is already quite a while ago that Felix visited me here in Freiburg I want to write some lines on it since we had such a great time here together and somehow it is unbelievable how well he handled the situation.
The first thing I remember when I try to think back to that time is that fortunately, as well as surprisingly, we had quite a lot of snow in the time from 20th to the 29th of January (the time Felix was here). Every time I think about this I can barely hide a grin…you should have seen that. As if it was the first time in his life that he had seen this white beauty called snow…if I should have a guess I would say he was about 7-9 years old when he saw that it snowed :-) !
Anyway, of course, his visit in Germany was not only about snow. I was really a bit nervous about him coming to Germany. I mean, of course, as you would expect, I was sooo happy and I so looked forward to that but on the other hand I wasn’t sure at all that he would like it here: Germany, German, Germans etc. and his knowledge of our language being rather, well…, tiny ;-) ! But now, almost a month later I have to say that I am proud that he managed it soo well and I am really happy about that fact since we had an amazing time (at least in my opinion and I hope it was the same for him).

Holidays in Eastern Europe: Relaxation or adventure? Part II - Cracow/Poland

well…I’m back :-) ! Without blablaing too much now I want to get back to our holidays immediately.
The first thing we experienced on our way to Poland was the bus journey from Riga to Warsaw. That was already very adventurous for us though I did expect something even worse. Anyway, our bus set off from Riga at 10pm to arrive in Warsaw at 9am (Polish time - which is equal to German time). That meant we had loads of time on the bus. We were quite reluctant when the bus finally arrived in Riga and we got rid of our luggage in the depths of the vehicle ;-) ! Well, we got on the bus through the door at the rear and tried to find two suitable seats for us…but at some point we realised that maybe we should have entered at the front so that the driver could check our tickets and make a tick on his list - oooops. So, Felix, brave as he is, got up and brought our tickets to the driver…fortunately he was not mad at us - puh :-) ! We were quite lucky that the journey was an over night one so we could at least try to get some sleep while crossing Eastern Europe. Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t a problem for me to sleep there…I mean I had the best shoulder to lean against :-) ! The bus was packed with many strange people…so we had also the possibility to make fun of the others :P !

Holidays in Eastern Europe: Relaxation or adventure? Part I - Riga/Latvia

Even though it is already quite a while since I wrote the last entry…this time I have a good excuse: I was on holidays :-) ! Well, okay, I’ve already been back for some days but it is really difficult to write something about these days away from home. Why? Because we had such a great time over there and I want to put everything we did and experienced into suitable words so that you can really feel what it was like for me! I’m not at all sure that I will succeed in this task but I will certainly try :-) !

uh, you can see every spot :P Bild 033

The journey to the German airport was already quite adventurous… I flew from an airport in Berlin and the flight set off at 8am which meant that I had to be there at about 6am…! I took my leave from home shortly after midnight just to make sure that I wouldn’t be late. So, without any sleep I arrived in Berlin at 4am and I had to wait for two very long hours, tired as hell and already quite excited :-) !
