Holidays in Eastern Europe: Relaxation or adventure? Part I - Riga/Latvia

Even though it is already quite a while since I wrote the last entry…this time I have a good excuse: I was on holidays :-) ! Well, okay, I’ve already been back for some days but it is really difficult to write something about these days away from home. Why? Because we had such a great time over there and I want to put everything we did and experienced into suitable words so that you can really feel what it was like for me! I’m not at all sure that I will succeed in this task but I will certainly try :-) !

uh, you can see every spot :P Bild 033

The journey to the German airport was already quite adventurous… I flew from an airport in Berlin and the flight set off at 8am which meant that I had to be there at about 6am…! I took my leave from home shortly after midnight just to make sure that I wouldn’t be late. So, without any sleep I arrived in Berlin at 4am and I had to wait for two very long hours, tired as hell and already quite excited :-) !

Freiburg: a new flat and great holidays

am I dreaming of a better world??

I’m back from my one-week trip to Freiburg and there is, in fact, loads to tell as I already promised in the previous entry!

I’m so not used to experiencing many great things in such a short time any longer… and the result is that I don’t have a clue now where to start :-) ! I hope that it won’t end up in a great mess…

Okay dokay, one thing after the other. We took off from home at 3am on Saturday morning and arrived in Freiburg at about noon. My best friend Christine welcomed us with a great breakfast which we enjoyed so much. However, at some point it was time to get to work - working ourselves through the adverts in the papers to find a new home for me. I was really a bit scared that I won’t find anything suitable in that week. Anyway, we found some interesting things and I started to call the people (I so hate that…). And, believe it or not, I was kind of successful, I managed to arrange two viewings for that very Saturday. The first one was at 3pm and I was very curious. The advert sounded almost perfect: the flat is cheap, the room ‘huge’, it is close to the centre and university and it is also close to Christine’s place!
